Ruling coalition mull current strength of parties in parliament for seat distribution



KATHMANDU: A meeting of the ruling coalition task force has developed preliminary understanding on seat distribution for the upcoming elections based on the current strength of parties in the parliament.

Dev Gurung, the leader of the Maoist Center, said the task force meeting held on Thursday at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar, agreed to create a blueprint for electoral coordination on the basis of seats the parties hold in parliament.

He said that there was a positive discussion in the meeting about preparing the modality of agreement for electoral coordination for November 20 elections.

He said that seat distribution would be further discussed and a conclusion will be reached based on the basis vote bank of the past elections and the current presence in the parliament.

He added as the statistics of the recently held local level elections were different, the current presence in the parliament was emphasized.

He said that the meeting of the coalition would be held on August 15 and the modalities of allotment of seats for the election would be finalized.
