Acting land revenue chief held with Rs 500,000 bribe

JANAKPURDHAM: Acting chief of Land Revenue Office, Dhanusha, Sunil Jha, has been arrested with bribe money.

Acting on a tip-off, the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Bardibas Chapter,  arrested  Jha for taking Rs 500,000 as a bribe.

The anti-graft body arrested Jha from Bhanuchowk of Janakpur this morning on the charge of receiving the bribe from a service seeker promising the latter help in settling a land-related case in his favor.

Bikram Jha had filed a case at the District Court, Dhanusha seeking ownership transfer of the land based in Jhijhikataiya jointly owned by Ram Kumar Mahato, Sarita Kumari Mahato and Isair Devi Mahato.

The case had been heard on March 28 and its verdict was issued on April 4.

Jha is alleged to have asked for bribe for his role in issuing the verdict in the plaintiff’s favor.
