Machhindra Club to play with Blue Star Club of Sri Lanka

KATHMANDU: The match between Machhindra Football Club of Nepal and Blue Star Club of Sri Lanka would be held at the Dasharath Stadium in Kathmandu on April 5, 2022.

The match is being held under the AFC Cup Qualifiers and this is Machhindra’s first opportunity to play in the AFC Cup, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) said. The match will start from 5 pm.

As per ANFA rule, the team remaining in the top position of the points tally up to the seventh stage of the Martyrs Memorial ‘A’ Division League gets the opportunity to play in the AFC Cup Qualifiers.

If Machhindra beats Blue Star in the first game, it will play against ATK Mohan Bagan of India in the second stage. This match will take place on April 6.

Machhindra will have to win the matches in these two stages as well as the final play-off to get to the group stage of the AFC Cup. The team winning in the play-ff will book a berth in the Group ‘D’ of the AFC Cup. The Group ‘D’ matches will be with Gokulum Kerela of India, the Basundhara Kings of Bangladesh, Majia of Maldives and the winner of the play-off.
