Finance Minister Sharma directs to utilize 100 percent of capital expenditure by fiscal end

The govt's capital expense for running fiscal stands at mere 9.39 percent



KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma has instructed various ministries to utilize all of the capital expenditure allocated for the current fiscal year 2021/22 by fiscal end.

He instructed secretaries of Ministries’ in this regard at a meeting held to review status of government expenditure in the running fiscal at the Finance Ministry Tuesday.

The government’s total capital expenditure stood at just 9.39 percent, running expenditure at 38.9 percent and financial expenditure at 25.41 percent as per data made public Monday. Data showed a mere 29.11 percent of the fiscal budget being spent so far.

“Six months of the fiscal year have passed. Within the remaining six months, 100 percent of the budget should be spent,” Minister Sharma told secretaries, adding that he was ready to help Ministries in every respect to utilizing 100 percent of the fiscal budget. He also urged to explore various ways to utilize the budget.

Minister Sharma stressed moving forward by involving local levels and the locals in large-scale projects.

He pointed out the need to improve the existing system in which government officials were reaching various Ministries with documents resulting in loss of time to get budget spent. He proposed going digital to save time.
