KATHMANDU: Liu Jianchao, the visiting Communist Party of China (CPC)’s foreign affairs chief, has invited Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to attend the party’s 20th Congress (convention) in November.
CCP General Secretary and President Xi Jinping has picked Liu, the party’s foreign affairs chief, as his envoy to Nepal.
During a bilateral meeting in Baluwatar on Sunday afternoon, Liu conveyed a message from President Xi and invited Prime Minister Deuba to attend the party’s congress, according to a Baluwatar source.
The 20th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party is taking place in November.
During the meeting with PM Deuba, Liu expressed concern over possible anti-China activities in Nepal. In response, Prime Minister Deuba assured him that Nepali land would not be used against China.
During the meeting, issues of mutual interest including Nepal-China relations were discussed, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the ministry, on Sunday, the Chinese leader also met with Foreign Minister Dr Narayan Khadka.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, discussions were held on further strengthening the bilateral relations between Nepal and China.
