KATHMANDU: The CPN-Maoist Center has decided to urge the government to correspond with the United States and seek official U.S. position on the 12-point declaration attached to Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement during its passage from parliament.
A recent meeting of the Central Committee of the Maoist Center held in Kathmandu from July 3 to 7 made a decision to this effect.
Party leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Sunday made public the decisions of the Central Committee meeting through his Facebook.
The Maoist Central Committee meet also made other decisions regarding the MCC project and the State Partnership Program (SPP) of the US.
“The MCC agreement was approved by the Federal Parliament of Nepal with a 12-point explanatory declaration and if the declaration is not accepted by the United States, the MCC agreement will be automatically scrapped. The US has not responded to it. Therefore, the Government of Nepal should, as soon as possible, write a letter to the MCC asking the United States to clarify its position on the 12-point declaration.”
The party also suggested the the government to immediately write to the US and inform about Nepal’s decision of not pursuing the SPP Agreement, which is inherent in the nature of military alliance with the United States and is against Nepal’s national sovereignty, independent and non-aligned foreign policy and national interest.
The party also decided to aware cadres and commoners alike about the geopolitical and strategic alliance and dangers of such agreements against national sovereignty and interests in the future as well.
On present status of MCC, the party has said it is divided, and would hold forums after the upcoming parliamentary and provincial elections.
