Silence period for May 13 local polls to begin from today midnight
The silence period for the May 13 local level elections is set to start from today midnight.
The election campaign and publicity are forbidden during this silence period, said Shaligram Aryal, the spokesperson of the Election Commission.
Liquor sale and consumption banned in view of local polls
District Administration Offices in all three districts in the Kathmandu Valley have decided to ban the supply and consumption of alcoholic products in view of the May 13 local level elections.
Issuing a notice separately today, the respective DAO informs that the decision shall come into effect from 12:00 midnight today and continue till May 13, the day fixed for holding the elections at entire 753 local units in a single phase.
Former Chief Election Commissioner Yadav denied “special observer” role
The Election Commission (EC) has refused to grant special observer’s role to former Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav.
According to EC sources, Yadav has been denied the role of observer he had applied for citing his affiliation to a party.
Two days a week holidays comes into effect
The decision of the Government of Nepal to give leave for two days a week has been published in the Nepal Gazette. As a result, the decision comes into effect on a trial basis from May 15.
According to the information published in the Gazette on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday will be a public holidays.
Prosperity possible under NC leadership: Mahat
Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has said promotion of good governance and achievement of prosperity is possible under the NC leadership.
In his address to a door-to-door program organized here today by the NC metropolis-4 in view of the May 13 local level elections, the leader claimed that NC would ensure good governance and prosperity in the Kathmandu Metropolis if it was mandated to lead it through the election.
Weightlifter Sanju Chaudhary found dead
Weightlifter Sanju Chaudhary, a gold medalist of the 13th South Asian Games (SAG), has been found dead.
Spokesperson of Metropolitan Police Range Lalitpur SP Siddhi Bikram Shah said that the Sanju was found hanging at the house of Sanjay Maharjan, a weightlifting instructor at Lubhu in Lalitpur.

This is what united us in the past and this will continue to keep bilateral relations good,” Ambassador Goder said during a program organized by the Embassy of Israel in Kathmandu to celebrate 62 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Israel on Tuesday (10 May).
