UML set to field Subedi as mayoral candidate in Bharatpur Metropolis



KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML is set to field Bijay Subedi as its candidate for the post of mayor of Chitwan’s Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

According to a UML source, Subedi, who won Bagmati Province Assembly seat from Chitwan Constituency No 2B, is going to be the mayoral candidate of the party in the May 13 local election.

A meeting of the UML’s Bharatpur Metropolitan Committee was held on Sunday to recommend the name of the mayoral candidate and the committee has prepared to unanimously recommend Subedi’s name to the mayor.

Devi Gyawali, who was UML mayoral candidate in 2017 election, will propose Subedi as the mayoral candidate this time and lawmaker Krishna Bhakta Pokharel would second the nomination, according to a UML source.

Subedi had taken charge of the Ministry of Social Development of Bagamati Province when Asta Laxmi Shakya had become Bagmati Chief Minister.

A permanent resident of Bharatpur Metropolis -12, Subedi has led UML Chitwan as chair for three terms.
