Govt seeking national consensus on MCC: Finance Minister Sharma

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Janardan Sharma said the government is effortful to finding a national consensus on the US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact.

Speaking at an event held at the Ministry of Finance on Thursday, Finance Minister Sharma said that efforts were being made to seek national consensus among the political parties on the MCC project.

Noting Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba was working to build consensus, Minister Sharma said, “People here very well know that MCC is a project dedicated to the energy and road sector. However, this issue has been politicized.”

He added political parties are now holding discussions on the issue. “There is an understanding that the government should move towards building a national consensus and finalize the MCC issue as soon as possible.”

He expressed confidence that the Prime Minister’s efforts to seek national consensus on the MCC project would yield results.
