KMC recovers Rs 70 million arrears from tax payers

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has recovered Rs 70 million arrears from big taxpayers, who had not paid land, house and property tax for the past 28 years.

Big tax payers has started coming in contact and paying arrears after the name of such taxpayers, who did not pay tax since long, was published in the first month of the current fiscal year.

Five taxpayers have already come in contact of KMC and set a time to pay tax and others are coming in contact.

Chief of Department of Revenue, KMC, Dr Shiva Raj Adhikari, said that the KMC had published the name of 52 big taxpayers in two-phases in the first month of the current fiscal year. The Department has now been collecting tax as a campaign as a preparation to recover Rs 700 million from taxpayers who have been making dillydallying to pay tax since long.

The deadline to pay tax has been extended for sometimes as per the demand by taxpayers who came in contact with the Department and the Department has made preparation to take legal action against those who do not came in its contact.
