EC says registration of candidacy nomination completed in a peaceful manner



KATHMANDU: The candidacy nomination registration for the November 20 election to the Federal and Provincial Assemblies has been completed across the country in a peaceful environment on Sunday, according to the Election Commission (EC).

The registration that began at 10:00 am continued till 5:00 pm by the candidates in the respective EC offices including the Office of the Chief Returning Offices and Office of the Election Offices in all 77 districts across the country.

EC Spokesperson Shaligram Sharma said the final details would be released shortly as the candidacy nomination process is still ongoing in some constituencies.

As per the latest information received from the EC, some 1,600 candidates have lodged their nomination in 165 posts for the member of the House of Representatives (HoR) while some 2,000 candidates are for 330 provincial assembly members.

In some constituencies, the candidacy nomination registration process is taking place as the candidates are queued up for the registration purpose.

Likewise, the nomination registration was also delayed as the political parties picked their candidates in the eleventh hour in some constituencies.

The election schedule published by the EC stated that the list of candidates whose nomination papers are registered today will be published by today itself, the time for filing complaints against the candidates is from 10 am to 3 pm on October 10, and the time for examining and deciding on nomination papers and complaints is on October 10 from 3 to 5 pm.

Similarly, the draft list of candidates will be published on October 11 from 5 pm to 7 pm, the time to withdraw the candidacy is on October 12 from 10 am to 1 pm and the final list of candidates will be published from 1 pm to 3 pm on the October 12, election symbols will be provided to the candidates from 4 pm on the same day.

The EC has already established 165 election officers with 77 chief returning officers and 88 returning officers for the election to be held on November 20.

According to the EC, the total number of voters for the November 20 elections are almost 18 million.
