President should resign if she does not authenticate Citizenship Bill: Prachanda

POKHARA: Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has alleged President Bidya Devi Bhandari for trying to make the Citizenship Bill a political issue.

Speaking to journalists at the Pokhara Airport on Friday, Prachanda hoped that the President would authenticate the Citizenship Bill this time.

“However, when I met the President a couple of days ago, I got the impression that she is in a mood to make this issue a political issue,” he alleged.

He said if the President did not authenticate the Bill, the issue would go to the court, and then the President should step down. “I have conveyed it to her,” he added.

Meanwhile, on a different note, “Prachanda” said the issue of who would become the Prime Minister after the November 20 election has not been discussed in the five-party coalition.

He said that he was not in a mood to discuss the issue of the prime minister before the election.

“The coalition will not portray any leader as the next prime minister now,” Prachanda said.

He also dismissed rumors that he was in the race to become the prime minister.

Prachanda also denied reports that the delay in forging consensus on the allocation of seats among the ruling partners was because of the Prime Ministerial candidate.

“I could have become the Prime Minister for five years in 2074 BS had I wanted to,” he said adding, “I could have become the Prime Minister then but my focus was on forging a Left unity rather than becoming a PM.”
