Lawmakers draw govt’s attention towards management of garbage, fertilizer

Members of the House of Representatives have drawn the government’s attention to the shortage of chemical fertilizer, saying farmers have been facing problems due to this.

Taking a special time in today’s HoR meeting, lawmaker Hridayesh Tripathi blamed the government for not paying attention even though the country has been facing an acute shortage of chemical fertilizer.

Floods damage temporary bridges in Melamchi

Floods following incessant rains have damaged temporary structures on the Melamchi River.

Last night’s rain damaged a temporary Hume pipe bridge and a culvert in Melamchi Municipality-11.

The road has been closed as soon as the temporary bridge was damaged.

Lightning claims two lives in Saptari

Two persons have died after being struck by lightning at Madhuwan of Bodebarsayin Municipality in Saptari district on Thursday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Madhav Prasad Kafle said 56-year-old Ramji Yadav and Satya Narayan Yadav, 80, were struck by the lightning coupled with rain.

NRB provisions cash margin for import of betel nut, pepper, dates and chickpeas

 Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has provisioned cash margin for import of betel nut, pepper, dates and chickpeas that used to be imported on quota earlier.

The Central Bank, issuing a circular to banks and financial institutions on Thursday, asked to maintain 100 percent cash margin on the import of above mentioned goods for importers.

The statement also urged Banks and Financial Institutions (BFIs) to facilitate exchange of foreign currency for import of betel nut, pepper, dates and chickpeas as raw materials for industrial use.

The government has increased the customs tariff in upcoming year’s budget. Now, the banks have to maintain 100 percent margin for the import of such items.

Naresh Dhakal appointed Nepal’s Resident Ambassador to Qatar

Dr. Naresh Bikram Dhakal has been appointed Nepal’s Resident Ambassador to Qatar.

According to the Office of the President, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed Dhakal as the ambassador on the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

US Army Pacific Commander Flynn arrives in Kathmandu

US Army’s four-star General Charles A. Flynn has arrived in Kathmandu on a four-day visit at the invitation of the Nepal Army.

He was on a visit to India before coming to Nepal.

Flynn was welcomed at the Tribhuvan Airport by Lieutenant General Nepal Army Bala Karki.

Nepal beats hosts Malaysia by 25 runs in ICC U19 Women’s qualifiers, but faces elimination

Nepal has defeated hosts Malaysia by 25 runs in a match under the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers at the UKM Oval Cricket Ground in Malaysia on Thursday.

However, Nepal’s dream of playing in the world cup to be organized in South Africa next year has shattered as it has been eliminated from the match. Nepal has been in third place with six points securing three wins and two losses of the total five matches played.

Malaysia has been also ousted from the match as well.
