NFD-N calls guaranteeing education opportunity to disabled children

KATHMANDU: The National Federation of Disabled, Nepal (NFD-N) has demanded amendment to the relevant policy for ensuring access of children with disabilities to school education.

During an interaction on inclusive education for the persons with disabilities in Kathmandu Thursday, the participations said the National Education Policy, 2076 BS failed to assimilate the inclusive policy relating to disability.

On the occasion, a memorandum was submitted to Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Paudel, seeking to reissue the Inclusive Education Policy, 2073 BS.

The Federation has demanded the roles and responsibilities of local governments to bring out-of-school children with disabilities to schools and the implementation of a special program targeting them.

Receiving the memo, the Minister pledged to guarantee jobs for disabled as per its capacity and address genuine demands of the Federation gradually.

Federation President Mitralal Sharma apprised the Minister that a flexible education system for autistic child is still awaited in the country and the existing learning monitoring and assessment and exam system is not disabled-friendly.
