Annulling his rebel candidacy, NC leader Karki supports coalition candidate in Pokhara metropolis

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) rebel candidate Bimal Bahadur Karki, who filed candidacy for the post of mayor of Pokhara Metropolitan City, has annulled his candidature.

Issuing a statement on Monday, Karki extended support to the ruling coalition’s candidate.

The Election Commission (EC) had set April 29 deadline for withdrawing candidacy. Karki had not withdrawn his candidacy then but today (Monday) he declared his candidacy void.

Dhanraj Acharya of the CPN-Unified Socialist is the coalition-backed mayoral candidate for mayor of Pokhara metropolis and Kopila Ranabhat of the Nepali Congress is the deputy mayoral candidate.

Karki has said that he filed rebel candidacy dissatisfied with the party’s policy take earlier.

However, he is now supporting coalition candidates by annulling his run in poll in consultation with friends and senior party leaders.
