UML Chairman Oli seeks impartial role of EC

KATHMANDU: Chairperson of the CPN-UML KP Sharma Oli said the Election Commission (EC) should be impartial.

“EC should play an impartial role and act on suggestions of political parties. We want an impartial election commission,” said the former Prime Minister at an event organized in the Capital City on Saturday.

He also urged all party leaders and cadres to strictly abide by the election code of conduct for the May 13 local elections. “Our party follows the rule of law. But it does not mean it keeps mum on whatever is done.”

He accused the EC of issuing the code of conduct without political parties’ consultations.

“The EC did not consult with us on the matters of the election code of conduct.”
