NRB Governor suspended while trying to ward off economic crisis: UML Chair  Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has accused the ruling coalition of making the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) governor a scapegoat for the inefficiency of the government.

Speaking at a program organized in Kathmandu on Saturday, the main opposition party leader criticized the government for suspending the governor despite the latter’s attempt to safeguard the country’s economy from prospective failure.

Earlier, Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari was suspended by the governor, on Friday, accusing him of non-compliance and non-cooperation.

However, former Prime Minister Oli criticized the government alleging that the governor tried to save face suspending the hard-working governor.

“The country is in the hands of shameless people. They suspend the governor for striving to prevent economic collapse,” the UML chair said, adding, “A man who has the experience of working as the deputy governor has surely better idea on the country’s economy than the novice recruited on the basis of nepotism.”

He jeered at the government’s probe committee formed to investigate the allegations made against the governor and expressed skepticism over the fair investigation.

“The committee headed by the Maoist Center-appointed judge can hardly work in an impartial manner,” UML chair Oli said, adding, “We know what the court is like.”

He also accused the government of promoting nepotism in the country.
