Hotel Yak and Yeti instructed to halt operations; five-star status revoked

KATHMANDU: The Department of Tourism has directed Durbar Marg-based Hotel Yak and Yeti to halt all of its operations, including casino.

The department ordered the closure of the hotel and casino as the hotel failed to pay the royalty and license renewal fee amounting to Rs 4.22 billion.

A Ministerial decision initiated action against Hotel Yak and Yeti following repeated calls from the department to pay the dues.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Prem Bahadur Ale on Tuesday decided to freeze the hotel’s immovable property and banking transactions, citing that the hotel repeatedly failed to respond to the authority concerned. A public notice was also published in Gorkhapatra daily urging the hotel to submit its dues.

In the letter written by the Tourism Department, Minister Ale also decided to revoke the five-star classification certificate of the hotel.
