KATHMANDU: Main opposition party, CPN-UML, is holding district-level elections today to elect the district leadership across the country.
Elections are being held in most of the districts despite the efforts to pick the leadership with consensus as instructed by the Center.
Attempts to elect consensus candidates have failed due to a large number of aspirants for leadership in many districts.
So far, chairpersons have been unanimously elected in 22 districts.
Elections are also being held for other posts in those districts.
The UML had held conventions in 61 districts on Friday, leaving out 16 districts due to internal disputes and geographical difficulties.
Of the 22 unanimously elected leaders so far, only seven are in Lumbini.
