CEC Thapaliya urges artists to become envoy of election

KATHMANDU: Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has urged artists to play the role of campaigners in order to hold the election to the House of Representatives and Province Assembly members in free and fearless manner.

Chief Election Commissioner Thapaliya shared that the role of artists would be effective to create election environment and to maintain a sense of friendship and unity among competitors even after election.

He sought professional and constructive contribution to make the election a success by disseminating election and voter education related message from their social sites, and to thereby ward off misinformation, disinformation and hate speech.

Responding to query of artists regarding ‘No Not Again’, Thapaliya said, “The EC is clear that misinformation, disinformation and hate speech should not be mixed with democracy and freedom of expression.

He further said the artists should disseminate the message that those taking election as the business would not make the country prosperous, stating that the sovereignty of the people is something that cannot be a matter of trade.
