Sexual violence victims to get compensation from state

KATHMANDU: The Committee on Law, Justice, and Human Rights under the House of Representatives has decided to provide compensation to the victims of sexual violence from the state coffers.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee held on Friday.

After discussing the bill to amend some laws against sexual violence, the committee has decided to provide compensation to the victims from the state treasury and not from the perpetrators.

The committee has decided to deposit the amount received from the perpetrator in the state treasury and compensate the victim from that.

Currently, there is a provision to compensate the victim from the perpetrator.
