Bancharedanda locals clash with police over garbage dump row

Police fire tear gas shells to disperse agitators

KATHMANDU: A clash has taken place between locals of Bancharedanda and police in Bancharedanda on Wednesday afternoon.

More than 200 police personnel have been mobilized at Bancharedanda to ensure the smooth passage of trucks carrying garbage from Kathmandu.

Police used force after the locals did not allow them to dump the garbage.

The situation has become tense now, according to Santosh Singh Rathore, Superintendent of Police, Kathmandu Valley Police Office.

He said that police used force after the locals pelted stones at them.

Police also fired two tear gas shells.

Locals of Bancharedanda have been obstructing the dumping site despite an agreement being reached between the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the Ministry of Urban Development and the people’s representatives of Kathmandu, Dhading and Nuwakot.
