Birendranagar declared a fully COVID-19 immunized city

KARNALI: Birendranagar Municipality in Surkhet district has been declared a fully COVID-19 immunized municipality, the first in the Karnali Province. Such an announcement was made after the municipality surpassed its target on COVID-19 vaccines.

Social Development Minister of Karnali Province Yagya Bahadur Budhachhetri declared the city as a fully COVID-19 immunized city on Thursday amid a function terming this day a historic milestone for Karnali Province.

On the occasion, he vowed to effectively run the vaccination drive against COVID-19 at all local levels in the province. “Needed jabs and human resources have been ensured to make all local levels fully immunized against COVID-19. The vaccination drive is still on,” the minister stated.

Likewise, Mayor of Birendranagar Dev Kumar Subedi said the success was achieved after availing the targeted population with vaccines by enforcing the provision of mandatory vaccines to all.

Subedi shared that the municipality vaccinated an additional 19 percent more people than its target.

The municipality is running the vaccination drive by visiting every household in all 16 wards. “This is a great achievement from the point of public health. We are working to vaccinate those missing ones.

The announcement (of a fully vaccinated city) was made after getting 100 percent success,” Deputy Mayor Mohanmaya Dhakal said.
