Typhoid vaccine being administered to 7.5 mln children from today

KATHMANDU: Typhoid vaccine is being administered to 7,500,000 children from the age of 15 months to 15 years across the country from today.

The vaccines will be provided from over 50,000 vaccination centers and schools, for which 10,000 medical persons and 112,858 volunteers have been deployed.

Prime Minister Deuba on Thursday inaugurated the anti-typhoid vaccination campaign amid a program organized at Durbar High School in Ranipokhari.

The typhoid has been provided to the Nepal government free of cost by Gavi, a global network on vaccination, said Sagar Dahal, the chief of the Department of Health Services and Child Health and Immunization Section.

The three-week campaign, which will run from April 8 to May 1, 2022, aims to reach all children aged between 15 months and 15 years to quickly achieve wider protection from typhoid, increase the impact of the vaccine introduction and combat the rise of antimicrobial resistance.
