KATHMANDU: The government is making preparations to establish government medical colleges in all seven provinces.

A proposal has been submitted to the Council of Ministers to open  medical colleges, informed Minister for Education, Science and Technology Devendra Poudel.

The proposal has been submitted to this end arguing that billions of rupees are going outside for medical study abroad, said Minister Poudel.

A report submitted by the Ministry of Education has stated that Nepali students pursuing medical education in Japan, Australia, Bangladesh, China, and India are spending around Rs 197 billion annually.

Hence, it is necessary to establish medical colleges in all the seven provinces to keep the money in the country itself, the ministry has said.

Minister Poudel further said that the government is making plans to make education vocational from schools to colleges to reduce the rate of existing unemployment problems.
