Five members of a family attempt group suicide; one dies in Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: Five members of the same family have tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in the capital Kathmandu on Monday.

According to Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Dinesh Mainali, one died whereas four others fell unconscious after the family consumed poison at their house in Ramkot, Nagarjuna Municipality-6, Kathmandu.

SP Mainali said the four family members who fell unconscious were undergoing treatment at Manmohan Hospital, Kathmandu.

“One of the five family members has died due to poison. The rest are undergoing treatment at Manmohan Hospital and are in critical condition,” he said, adding, “They are undergoing treatment on ventilators.”

According to SP Mainali, Indira Maya Pradhan, Bhim Pradhan, Mandira Dangol and Suprena Pradhan are undergoing treatment. They all hailed from Dallu, Kathmandu, and were staying in Ramkot, Nagarjuna-6.

The police recovered a poison bottle and a suicide note from the incident site. The suicide note stated that they had to commit suicide due to poor economic conditions.

The incident is under investigation.
