NC leader Koirala, US Ambassador pay visit to UML Chair Oli

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Shekhar Koirala has reached the residence of UML Chairman KP Oli in Balkot to meet with the opposition leader.

Koirala went to Balkot on Tuesday evening, it is learnt. The two leaders discussed about the upcoming local level elections scheduled for May 13 and the recent political developments.

The main opposition leader Oli also met with United States Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry this morning. Ambassador Berry reached Balkot in the morning and held an hour-long discussion with the opposition leader.

The discussion between US Ambassador and UML Chair Oli also featured the US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), among other issues, sources said.

This comes at a time when the government is under pressure to table MCC in the parliament. A correspondence between MCC and Prime Minister Deuba and CPN-Maoist Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ was leaked Monday. The two leaders of the ruling party seeking more time assured MCC that they would ratify the agreement.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress-led government is trying its best to table MCC in parliament despite oppostion from ruling coaltion partners, including CPN-Unified Socialist.

The UML is meanwhile not taking any sides on MCC and has demanded that the government be clear of its position first.
