First President of Nepal lauds five parties, courts and civil society for ‘safeguarding’ constitution



KATHMANDU: First President of Nepal Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has remarked that President Bidya Devi Bhandari and then Prime Minister KP Oli have tried to act against the spirit of the Constitution.

Addressing a book launch  program in Kathmandu on Saturday, former President Dr. Yadav said that the constitution and the parliamentary system encountered two severe attack in a year.

“The constitution has been attacked twice in a year. The House has been attacked too. It is as if the Prime Minister and the President are working together to end it,” he said, referring to the two consecutive attempts to dissolve the parliament last year.

Then Prime Minister KP Oli had dissolved the parliament twice within six months last year. However, the Supreme Court later overturned the dissolution.

Former President Yadav also said that the state organs need to be strengthened by giving them ‘nutritious food’.

“Stating that five political parties, civil society and the courts have upheld the constitution,” former President Yadav said, adding, “Prime Minister and political parties should play a role in ending the current stalemate in the court and the parliament.”

He was the chief guest of the program organized to launch leftist leader Chandra Dev Joshi’s book  the ‘Marxism and World Communist Movement.’
