“Embossed number plates mandatory only for vehicles registered onwards Nov 17, 2021”

KATHMANDU: The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) has said that embossed number plate is mandatory only for the vehicles registered onwards Mangsir 1, 2078 BS (November 17, 2021).

The DoTM clarified that embossed number plate is not mandatory for all vehicles plying on the road from Shrawan 1 i. e. July 17, 2022.

Issuing a statement on Tuesday, the department clarified that all the vehicles plying on the road from July 17 were not expected to have embossed number plates.

The DoTM said the notice published in the National Gazette on Kartik 22, 2078 (November 8, 2021) cited the need of inspection for those vehicles required to affix embossed number plates.

“Affixing embossed number plate is not an optional matter,” the statement read. “It is necessary to expedite embossed-plate affixing works in the future to complete the work on time. Embossed number plates are not mandatory on all vehicles plying on the road from July 17.”

The DoTM had been stressing that embossed number plates should be fixed in all vehicles from July 17 this year.

However, after there were widespread protests from streets to parliament, the department has backtracked on its decision.
