EDV 2023 results to be out today
The results of the Electronic Diversity Visa (EDV) lottery for the year 2023 is being made public today i.e. May 7, Saturday.
The results of the EDV will be published today at around 9:45 pm Nepali time.
The results can be viewed at https://dvprogram.state.gov using the confirmation number obtained at the time of filling out the EDV.
The DV-2023 registration period opened on October 6, 2021, and closed on November 9, 2021.
DV-2023 Entrants should keep their confirmation number safe until at least September 30, 2023.
EC tightens screw against code of conduct breach
With preparation for the May 13 local level election coming to a final phase, the Election Commission (EC) has tightened its screw against the breach of poll code of conduct.
The constitutional body has not only disseminated election-focused information through a daily election bulletin but also sought clarifications based on its onsite monitoring and put measures to check activities against election code of conduct.
As informed, the EC has sought clarifications from different political parties, ministers, leaders and candidates and also issued directive for the effective implementation of election code of conduct. According to the information received, the incidents of code of conduct violation are sporadically taking place in different places.
Kami Rita Sherpa sets new record in climbing, summits Everest for 26th time
Mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa has set a record by climbing Mt. Everest for the 26th time.
According to Seven Summit Treks, Kami Rita led an 11-member team to reach the summit of Everest on Saturday. He reached the Everest top at 6:55 pm today, Saturday.
His team reached the Everest peak making route and hanging rope for the climbers.
Born in 1970 in Thame, Solukhumbu, Kami Rita holds the record for most climbs since 2018.
Earlier, he broke Appa Sherpa’s record by climbing Mt. Everest for the 22nd time on May 16, 2018.
Alliance formed to counter UML Chair Oli’s atrocities: PM Deuba
Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that a five-party alliance was formed to counter the atrocities of then Prime Minister KP Oli.
Addressing an election rally organized by the ruling coalition in Butwal on Saturday, Prime Minister Deuba said they had formed the alliance to protect democratic rights and institutionalize the republic.
“The alliance was formed to counter Oli’s atrocities, and the threats he caused to the democratic system,” he said, adding, “There is no provision in the constitution for the prime minister to dissolve the parliament; yet, UML Chair dissolved the parliament.”
He recalled that the UML obstructed the parliament to ‘justify’ the irrational dissolution.
Man killed after falling from vehicle used for election campaign
A man has died after falling from the roof of a vehicle used for the election campaign by the Nepali Congress at Kalimati Rural Municipality-2 in the district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as local resident Khumraj Thapa Magar, 18, Thapa, who sustained head injuries died at a hospital in Tulsipur, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Sumit Khadka, chief of the district police office, Salyan.
Coalition formed to share spoils of government: UML Chair Oli
CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has said political parties such as the Nepali Congress and the CPN-Maoist Center have formed an alliance to share the spoils of the government.
Speaking at an election rally in Itahari Sub-metropolitan City on Saturday, he said the five ruling parties formed the alliance as they could not compete with the UML even at ward-level.
UML Chairman Oli remarked that the ruling party’s alliance was a poorly-patched puppet.
9th century Parvati statue to return to Nepal
The Yale University Art Gallery in Connecticut, USA, is returning to Nepal a 9th century stone statue of Parvati.
The statute remained in the permanent collection of the Gallery. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Nepali Consulate General in New York and Yale University Art Gallery on Friday to return the statue to Nepal, according to the Consulate General.
The idol had gone missing from the Birbhadreshwar Mahadev Temple at Golmadi in Bhaktapur in 2032 BS. The sculpture was reportedly donated to the Yale University Art Gallery by a donor seven years ago.
Citizenship-related problem remains unsolved due to UML: Chair Dahal
Chairperson of the CPN-Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that citizenship related problem has not been resolved due to the CPN-UML.
Addressing the election assembly organized at Dhalkebar of Mithili Bihari Municipality in Dhanusha, Chair Dahal shared that the citizenship related problems remained unsolved after the UML obstructed the parliament proceedings.
He opined, “Citizenship-related problem was not resolved due to obduracy on part of the CPN-UML. We will resolve problems soon after resumption of House proceedings. Whether the UML agrees or not will not make any sense.”
Nepal defeats Zimbabwe ‘A’ by 9 wickets
Nepal has won the second match of the one-day cricket series against Zimbabwe ‘A’ defeating the guest team by 9 wickets.
In the second ODI played against Zimbabwe at TU Cricket Ground on Saturday, Nepal met the Zimbabwe’s target of 88 runs at the loss of one wicket in 11 overs.
Sunil Dhamala who top-scored with 38, was followed by Asif Sheikh (34) and Binod Bhandari (38). Sunil hit six fours in 38 balls and added 38 runs. Asif hit six fours in 31 balls and added 34 runs.
Army takes over security in critical areas
The Nepal Army has taken charge of the security of areas critical in view of the near-coming local level elections in Chitwan.
Accordingly, the Nepal Army has taken charge of the security of Chitwan and Bharatpur airports.
According to Chief District Officer Asman Tamang, the army has taken responsibility for security in important agencies as per the decision of the District Security Committee. The Nepal Army will take responsibility for security in these areas till May 20.
