Advocate Govinda Bandi appointed Law Minister

KATHMANDU: Advocate Govinda Bandi has been appointed Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Bandi (Govinda Prasad Sharma) as the Law Minister as per the recommendation of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Bandi has been recommended in the place of incumbent Law Minister Dilendra Prasad Badu.

Former Law Minister Badu has been appointed as the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies.

Meanwhile, since Bandi is a non-parliamentarian, he has to become a member of the federal parliament within six months.

It should be noted that advocate Bandi had argued in favor of the opposition when the then Prime Minister KP Oli had dissolved the House of Representatives.

He had also played a significant role in the ratification of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact.

Bandi was also one of the key players who contributed to preparing the 12-point interpretative declaration to pass MCC.
