KATHMANDU: Sitting for long hours at a stretch can cause many health issues.

In fact, the Covid pandemic has made work-from-home a reality for a lot of people around the world.

This has restricted people to their chairs spending long hours working at their computers.

According to nutritionist Nmami Agarwal, sitting for too long in a single place can deteriorate one’s health.

The side effects include diseases such as heart issues, arteries getting blocked, which later can increase the risk of heart diseases.

Likewise, it can also affect one’s respiratory system by reducing the lung capacity, according to her.

Meanwhile, sitting for too long can also make a person susceptible to obesity.

The fat accumulated around the abdomen can lead to abnormal levels of cholesterol, according to the Indian Express.

This can also affect a person’s bone health, causing joint pain, lower back and neck pain.

Agrawal says not moving around can also impact the mental health, too, leading to lack of motivation, problem concentrating and anxiety.

How to break this?

Agrawal suggests going for a walk for at least 15 minutes.

One can even get up and fill a bottle of water and drink.
