KATHMANDU: The government has decided not to confer Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana with the earlier decided honorary title following his suspension.
The government had decided to confer a coveted honorary title ‘Mahaujjwal Rastradeep’ on Rana six months ago.
According to an official at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rana will not be called to the ceremony scheduled to be held on April 14 for the distribution of honorary titles and medals.
“His decoration is ready but we are halting it until his impeachment case is settled,” said the official.
The Home Ministry on Monday had made public a list of dignitaries notifying them to attend the ceremony to receive the honorary titles and medals.
Even though Rana’s name features in the list, a meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday decided to confer the title on him only after his corruption case is settled.
The Home Ministry has issued a notice to take the pass by April 11 to get the honorary titles to be conferred by the President while ornaments and medals will be distributed by the Ministry itself.
Rana had been suspended after an impeachment motion was filed against him at the Supreme Court on February 13.
