NC to launch publicity drive to educate masses on MCC and counter misconceptions

The party would deliver booklets on MCC as part of door-to-door campaign

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) is preparing to run a publicity campaign on Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Compact and deliver booklets to the citizens at their doorsteps.

The NC has prepared a booklet to make the public understand that MCC is a development project and the agreement had been approved by the parliament along with explanatory notes. The party hoped the drive would help dispel misconceptions about the US grant.

NC Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka said videos along with the booklets were in the making. He added the election campaign would clear confusion of MCC from among the masses.

“The election campaign would start on March 5. The NC will deliver booklets at the doorsteps of the people shedding light on the truth of MCC,” said Khadka. The party is planning to deploy NC ward members to conduct the door-to-door campaign.

The publicity campaign, meanwhile, has been postponed for nine days and would now commence from mid-March.

NC General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma said the campaign last from from March 5 to March 13. He said that the door-to-door campaign would be launched with the aim of strengthening the organization and making the NC victorious in the local elections.

All the party structures and mechanisms are to be mobilized in the campaign. Sharma said that the party has adopted a policy of ‘work and responsibility to everyone’.

“We have a long tradition of getting positions but not responsibilities. The same will not happen this time and everyone will get party’s work,” he said.

Central members would be deployed in all 77 districts during the campaign. It is said NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba would announce the campaign that is expected to snowball into the election campaign.

Full shape would be given to the party structures in wards, trainings, gathering, felicitation and other programs would be conducted as part of the campaign.

The provinces and districts will implement the programs developed by the center and they could also devise supportive programs to meet the party objective.
