KATHMANDU: A team of newly-elected representatives of the Nepali Congress (NC) party from Kathmandu met Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and drew his attention to fulfill five demands related to the Melamchi water supply project.

They, including the newly-elected lawmaker from Kathmandu-1, Prakashman Singh, reached Baluwatar on Tuesday and demanded that the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee should not be canceled and if it is done, alternative arrangements should be made.

“In the budget statement of the financial year 2079/080 BS, it is mentioned that the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee has been canceled, as there is confusion in the project’s operations, the Melamchi Water Supply Development Committee should be established immediately or other necessary decisions should be taken,” the letter submitted to Prime Minister Deuba, said.

They also demanded the Prime Minister to discuss various issues with the residents of Sindhupalchok Helambu, the source area of the project.
