Unnecessary politics on parliament term: Law Minister

KATHMANDU: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Govinda Prasad Sharma Koirala said arrangement regarding the term of the House of Representatives (HoR) and Province Assembly was mooted in line with the constitutional provision.

Unnecessary political articulation was made on the lower house term, he said, explaining arrangement regarding HoR and province assembly was to be made to address legal vacuum.

In the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Law Minister Koirala said this while responding to the queries raised in course of a clause-wise discussion on ‘Some Nepal Act Amendment Bill, 2079 BS’.

He complained over unnecessary politics on the bill though it was introduced with a fair motive. There should be clear provisions as to when parliament should convene and when to prorogue, Minister Koirala said, adding there should be no vacuum in the HoR.

The decision should not be changed on the basis of reservation from a handful people, he asserted, adding rather it should be clarified by the parliament.

He also highlighted the need to contemporarily make our laws by accepting the laws being made at international level.

A law related to money laundering was mooted keeping into consideration the need to fully check the illegally-earned property, he clarified.

The minister further shared as per the internationally-developed norms and values of late, legitimate source of the property-earned should be disclosed otherwise it would be subjected to legal action.
