KATHMANDU: The five-party ruling alliance has decided to nullify candidatures of rebel candidates in the May 13 local level election.

A meeting held among office bearers and members of secretariats of the ruling parties on Friday decided to nullify rebel candidatures of candidates from the parties within the alliance.

Nepali Congress (NC) Local Level Election Central Mobilization Committee Secretariat Coordinator Nanu Banstola presided over the meeting attended by Dor Prasad Upadhyay from CPN-Maoist Center, Laxman KC from CPN-Unified Socialist, Lal Bahadur Tamang from Janata Samajbadi Party and Himlal Puri from the Rastriya Janamorcha held at NC central party office in Sanepa, Kathmandu.

The meeting decided to hold the local level election in a free, fearless and amicable manner on the basis of mutual coordination and understanding among all the political parties in the alliance.

The meeting urged the leadership of the ruling parties concerned to take necessary initiative to immediately nullify rebel candidacies from within the parties against the common candidates of the alliance.

Each party needs to inform each other about such rebel candidacies other than common candidacy.

Likewise, the secretariat is to be made active in resolving issues concerning lack of coordination or any misunderstanding among parties of the alliance during the local level elections.

Similarly, if disagreement or misunderstanding arises with political parties other than in the coalition during the local level elections, the secretariat will be active in resolving issues in consensus with the parties in the coalition.

Earlier, a meeting of the five-party alliance had decided that the parties would take official action against the rebel candidates. Accordingly, rebel candidate were asked to withdraw their candidatures and those rebel candidates not abiding by party directive have been taken action against.
