NC issues circular not to immediately unveil candidacies



KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) has issued a circular to the district working committees not to immediately unveil the list of candidates of chiefs and deputy chiefs of local bodies.

The circular has been issued saying that a modality of alliance is being worked out at the center level for the upcoming local level elections.

“An electoral alliance is being worked out at the center. If the name-list of candidates is made public, it will affect the electoral alliance. Hence, the circular has been issued not to immediately unveil the names of chiefs and deputy chiefs of local units,” an NC source said.

However, chief secretary of the central party office Krishna Prasad Paudel said the district working committees have been directed to timely execute all the necessary works as per the statute but hold the decision for the time being.

As per the provision of the party statue, central parliamentary committee will select candidates for the posts of mayors and deputy mayors of metropolitan cities, province parliamentary committees will select mayors and deputy mayors of sub metropolitan cities and municipalities, district parliamentary committee will select chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities and federal constituency parliamentary committee will select candidates for the post of ward chairpersons and members.
