Central Security Committee hold discussions on security challenges



KATHMANDU: The government has held discussion on the security situation in view of the upcoming elections.

The meeting of the Central Security Committee held under the chairmanship of Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand at the Ministry of Home Affairs Thursday discussed on the contemporary security situation and the security challenges in the coming days.

Home Ministry spokesperson Pradip Kumar Koirala said the meeting dwelled on the security preparations for the National Assembly election and the upcoming local level election. The National Assembly election is taking place on January 26 and the Election Commission has proposed for holding the local level election in April. However, the government has not fixed the date for the local level election as yet.

The meeting saw the presentation of the conclusion that the CK Raut Group’s activities were adding security challenge in the Tarai-Madhes areas. “Discussions were held in the committee’s meeting regarding the present security situation and the security challenges in the coming days,” he said.

High-ranking officials, including the chiefs of the Nepali Army, Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and the National Investigation Department, were present at the meeting.
