Neighbors are to blame for the melting Himalayas – UML Chair Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has said that because of the neighborhood and the world community, the snow in the Himalayan region of Nepal has started to melt.

Speaking at the program organized by Pravasi Nepali Manch Saudi Arabia in Kathmandu on Saturday, the UML Chairman said that the mountains of Nepal have melted unusually and looked black because of the neighboring countries and the world community.

“Nepal is proud to the contribution to environmental protection,” said Oli, “other countries in the world have maintained at most 30 percent of forests. However, we have protected 46 percent of the forests. 30 percent is our dense forest area. Although we are fully aware of the environment, the reason why the mountains look black and the snow does not fall on the mountains is due to the global community.”

He remarked that the wheat chaff flew from the neighborhood and its dust and smoke reached the mountains.

“There is acid in the ash which has been causing the melting of Himalayas,” he said.
