Citizenship Bill likely to be sent to President’s Office today for authentication

ATHMANDU: Speaker Agni Sapkota is likely to send the bill to amend the Citizenship Act for the second time to the President’s Office for authentication.

Earlier on August 14, President Bidya Devi Bhandari had returned the Citizenship Bill passed by the House of Representatives and the National Assembly sent it to her for authentication back to the House.

President Bhandari had sent a message to the Federal Parliament with a recommendation.

Although President Bhandari returned the Bill to the Federal Parliament for reconsideration, the House of Representatives and the National Assembly endorsed the Bill without making any changes.

On August 18, the House of Representatives passed the bill as it was sent back by the President.

Similarly, the National Assembly also passed the bill on September 4.

Article 113 of the Constitution has a provision that the President can send the Bill back to the Federal Parliament for reconsideration.

However, Article 113 of the Constitution stipulates that the President must certify the bill within 15 days.

Once the bill is authenticated by the President, it will take the form of an Act.
