DSP to decide on electoral coordination after announcement of state, federal polls

KATHMANDU: The Democratic Socialist Party (DSP) is to decide on forging electoral coordination only after the announcement of the date of the federal and state elections.

A meeting of DSP Central Executive Committee on Sunday reviewed the local elections and concluded that the local elections have not been satisfactory due to confusion over whether elections will be held – leading to poor preparation for the local elections.

The party clarified that it will not immediately decide on the electoral coordination in the upcoming state and House of Representatives elections.

“After the announcement of the election date, we will put forward our demand and whoever will take them positively, we will cooperate with them,” said Keshav Jha, an executive member of the party.

During the meeting, some leaders also raised questions about prospect of electoral cooperation with the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP). However, Chairman Mahantha Thakur said the issue would be open for discussion if such proposal was to come.

He also briefed about the meeting held with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday. He said that the Prime Minister was positive towards the demands being raised by the parties, including the Citizenship Bill.

The meeting has decided to draw the attention of the Prime Minister again by incorporating other demands.
