Panel of ruling coalition takes lead in ongoing vote count of Nepal Bar Association



KATHMANDU: A panel of legal practitioners close to the ruling coalition has taken the lead in the ongoing vote count of the Nepal Bar Association.

Gopal Krishna Ghimire, who is vying for Nepal Bar presidency from the ruling coalition, is leading the race against rival candidate Bishnumani Adhikari represented by law practitioners close to the main opposition CPN-UML. In the ongoing counting of votes, Ghimire has 213 votes cast for him while Adhikari has received only 101 votes.

Likewise, for the post of Nepal Bar general secretary, Anjita Khanal of the coalition is ahead with 191 votes with progressive panel’s Kedar Koirala chasing behind with 131 votes.

Law practitioners affiliated to the ruling coalition and main opposition are participating in the election of Nepal Bar by forming their respective panels. Eight candidates are in the fray for the post of president of the Nepal Bar Association.

The bar will have a working committee of 25 people, including the president and 11 other officers and members. In this election, there were 9,708 advocate voters, of which 5,700 were in the valley and 3,500 outside.

The election for new working committee of Nepal Bar took place on Saturday.
