Chitwan NC delegation to draw leadership’s attention towards Bharatpur mayor’s post

KATHMANDU: A delegation from Chitwan Nepali Congress (NC) will arrive in Kathmandu on Wednesday to draw the party leadership’s attention toward staking a mayoral claim in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

A delegation comprising central member Tek Prasad Gurung, district lawmaker and district president will arrive in the capital on Wednesday.

Incumbent Bharatpur Mayor Renu Dahal, who is also the daughter of CPN-Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, had won the post in the previous local elections with the support of the NC.

The Maoists have put forth their claim for the post of mayor this time as well. Maoist Chair Prachanda laid the party’s claim to Bharatpur mayorship in his recent visit to home district Chitwan.

The Chitwan NC delegation is of the view that this time the NC should claim the post now and the Maoists should support the NC as the NC had supported the Maoists last time.

Chitwan NC President Rajeshwar Khanal is adamant about not giving up the spot for the Maoists this time.

In the local level election of 2017, the Maoists and NC had agreed on fielding candidates for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor respectively.
