DIGs writ assigned to the single bench of Justice Chudal

KATHMANDU: A writ petition filed by three Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIGs) alleging discrimination in recommending promotion to the post of Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG) has been assigned to the Single Bench of Justice Dr. Kumar Chudal on Tuesday.

According to Supreme Court (SC) sources, the writ filed by three DIGs Ishwar Babu Karki, Ghanshyam Aryal, and Prakash Jung Karki has reached Dr. Chudal’s bench for hearing.

Dissatisfied with the recommendation committee’s decision to forward three relatively low ranking officials to the post of AIG, senior DIGs including Ishwar Karki reached the apex court alleging that the committee’s decision was biased and discriminatory. They have demanded revocation of the decision to promote the junior DIG to AIG.

The cabinet meeting had decided, last Thursday, to promote DIGs Basant Pant, Dhiraj Pratap Singh, and Rabindra Dhanuk to the post of AIG on the same day.

The Council of Ministers had made the decision based on the recommendation made by the committee headed by Home Secretary Tek Narayan Pandey.

Earlier, the hearing on the writ was postponed citing that the bench headed by Justice Kumar Regmi could not conduct the hearing due to the ‘conflict of issue’ case.
