Ruling coalition forms mechanism for electoral alliance



KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition, which is preparing to contest the local elections by forging an electoral alliance, has formed a mechanism at the central level to coordinate the distribution of candidates.

A meeting of the coalition held at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar on Tuesday formed a mechanism headed by Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel with representatives of all parties to decide on the candidate on the basis of suggestions from the lower echelons.

Meanwhile, members of the committee include NC General Secretary Gagan Thapa and Communications Minister Gyanendra Karki from the Nepali Congress.

Similarly, Maoist leaders Barshaman Pun and Dev Prasad Gurung represent the Maoist Center while Beduram Bhusal and Bijay Poudel are members of the Unified Socialist Party.

Ashok Rai and Renu Yadav have represented the Janata Samajbadi Party, and Himal Puri from the Rastriya Janamorcha.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba also briefed the leaders of the ruling coalition on his recent visit to India.

Leader Khanal also informed that the meeting discussed the options to boost the deteriorating economy of the country.
