Ruling coalition to form mechanism for electoral alliance



KATHMANDU: The ruling coalition, which is preparing to contest the local elections by forging an electoral alliance, has decided to form a mechanism at the central level to coordinate the distribution of candidates.

A meeting of the coalition held at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar on Tuesday decided to form a mechanism with representatives of all parties and decide on the candidate on the basis of suggestions from the lower echelons.

After the meeting, Unified Socialist leader Jhala Nath Khanal informed that the mechanism is likely to be formed under the coordination of Nepali Congress leader Ram Chandra Poudel.

The names of the representatives in the mechanism will be made available by the ruling coalition parties soon.

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba also briefed the leaders of the ruling coalition on his recent visit to India.

Leader Khanal also informed that the meeting discussed the options to boost the deteriorating economy of the country.
