Interpretation of MCC dispels misconception among people: NC General Secy Thapa

BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Gagan Thapa has said that it would be a disregard of the parliament to say that there was no rationale for the government and parliament to endorse the US grant Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) with a descriptive note.

Talking to media persons at the Biratnagar Airport Saturday, NC General Secretary Thapa asserted that our own treaties, acts and international laws reserved our rights to describe any agreement. Stating that there was nothing new in the description, he said that whatever the MCC compact had in itself was clarified.

According to him, the NC was clear about the description of the MCC compact. The descriptive note was needed to enlighten other political parties about it and to have it endorsed by the parliament.

He believed misconception about MCC among the people would gradually go away. Thapa opined that those spreading misinformation about MCC should be constantly held to account about MCC for next few years. Otherwise, he warned, they will continue to spread rumors and misconceptions on other similar issues.

Similarly, NC’s Vice-president Dhanaraj Gurung clarified that the incumbent government formed a coalition in compulsive condition and it would move ahead depending on the situation and circumstances. As for forging an alliance for election, he ruled out the possibility for the same.
