UML’s regular obstruction might lead to early election: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: Lawmaker and General Secretary of ruling Nepali Congress (NC) Gagan Thapa has pointed out that the main opposition CPN-UML’s continuous obstruction of the House of Representatives (HoR) might lead the country to early election.

Speaking at the  8th National Convention of Nepal Civil Employee’s Union in Kathmandu on Saturday, lawmaker Thapa said that the general election could be held soon if the House of Representatives fails to function.

“While the UML is obstructing the House of Representatives, there is no justification for running this parliament and the question would arise as to why it is being run,” he said, adding, “We held many rounds of talks with the main opposition but all our attempts were in vain, hence, if the obstruction continues it might be rational to go for early election.”

He remarked that the communist parties of Nepal failed to fulfill their responsibility of running government for five years and claimed NC would not make any mistakes now.

“People want political stability and they gave a good majority to the communist; however, the communists failed to meet the people’s expectation and spent all their time in quarrel and misappropriation,” the NC General Secretary said, adding, “NC came to government to rescue the nation now. We will form our government and will work as per our election manifesto once we win the election.”
