Home Minister Khand inaugurates Melamchi Rivulet Bridge

KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Balkrishna Khand has inaugurated a Bailey bridge constructed over the Melamchi rivulet.

The flood-fed Melamchi rivulet had swept away the bridge at Chanute Bazaar last year. The Nepal Army (NA) had constructed the bridge connecting Helambu rural municipality-2 and 7.

It may be noted that the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management National Council had handed over the responsibility for the bridge construction to the Nepal Army on October 21. The bridge connects local Chanute and Bhirkharka.

The bridge constructed in the span of nine weeks was handed to the Department of Roads on Saturday. Having a 48.77-meter length and 4.20-meter breadth, the bridge has a bearing capacity of 24 tons. With the construction of the bridge, it has been easier for the locals to travel to other places, including Kathmandu for most-essential goods and services. RSS
